Paul-Jon Patin currently
lives in Forest Hills, NY and grew up sailing on the Great South
Bay, Long Island. In 1974 at the age of 6, PJ began crewing in Blue
Jays but as an only child, he gravitated toward single-handed
sailing and in 1978 started club racing the family Sunfish,
"Floating Bear." In 1982 PJ made it to his first National regatta
placing 4th in the USYRU Smythe Junior Single-handed. In 1984 he won
the Blue Jay Nationals, and as a crew for his Father, won the Raven
Nationals. In 1987 he placed 6th in his first Sunfish World
Championship and in 1992 was fortunate to win the Sunfish Worlds.
Today, PJ owns and actively races Flying Scots, Lasers, JY15s, J22s,
Sunfish and winter sailing, Interclub dinghies at Larchmont, with
his wife, Anne Cottrell Patin, "Nicholas' Mom."

Coaching and Instruction Experience
Paul-Jon served as a lead racing coach and instructor at the Babylon
Yacht Club for 6 years, from 1984 - 1989. (Head instructor for the
last 3 years). Throughout the same period, PJ instructed and coached
students from the ages of 6 to senior adults, often acting as lead
instructor in stand-up discussions for all experience levels.
Paul-Jon successfully coached numerous students to Championship
victories on the Great South Bay and Area B (National semi final)
level; also including “Midget,” USYRU Junior Championships in the
Sears (crew 3), Bemis (2) , Smythe (single) YRA & Area level
victories. Students were trained to race in J24s, J22s, MobJacks,
Flying Scots, Laser IIs, 420s, Lasers, Sunfish and Laser Radials.
In 1990 to 1992 Paul-Jon became a Sail Consultant for Shore Sails
Long Island where he was tasked to do (speak at) seminars and on the
water learning experiences. During this employment and “to date,” PJ
has coached clinics at Yacht Clubs (both professionally and
voluntarily) Some examples include; Sea Cliff, Moriches Bay,
Westhampton, Sayville, Babylon, Charleston and Kings Point Merchant
Marine Academy to name a few. Experiences have involved sailors from
Junior to International and Olympic level sailors
